Hotel Gracery Seoul: 4 Essential Tips for a Perfect & Honest Stay

4 Honest Tips Before Booking Hotel Gracery Seoul (Read This First!)

Hey there, travelers! It’s your local friend from K-locallog. Recently, my company booked me a room at the Hotel Gracery Seoul for a quick rest during some heavy work duties. I didn’t book it myself, so I was able to experience it without any preconceived notions.

Located right in the center of downtown, this hotel is a very popular choice for tourists, especially from Japan. But is it right for you? As a local, I know this area inside and out. Here are four vital tips and a peek into what my stay was really like.

1. The Perfect Tourist Location (But with a Major Warning!) / 관광객에게 완벽한 위치 (하지만 중요한 경고!)

First, the good news. Hotel Gracery Seoul boasts an incredible location. It is extremely close to 시청역 (Si-cheong yeok – City Hall Station), 남대문 (Nam-dae-mun – Namdaemun Market), and 덕수궁 (Deok-su-gung – Deoksugung Palace). For sightseeing, you can’t get much better than this. It’s tidy and perfect for a 1~2 night stay.

However, here is the local warning you won’t always read online: this area near City Hall is very famous for 빈번한 시위 (bin-beon-han si-wi – frequent protests). It is not the hotel’s fault, but the noise can be intense. I tried to sleep in after an early morning shift, but the protests started, and I couldn’t get a single wink of sleep. The noise will impact your memory of the stay.

2. Modern Vibes and a Surprising Bathtub! / 현대적인 분위기와 놀라운 욕조!

The Hotel Gracery Seoul is relatively new, so the overall condition of the rooms is cleaner and more modern than I expected. When you walk in, the room looks neat.

The best surprise was in the bathroom! Most standard hotels of this class in Seoul only offer a shower in the standard rooms. I was shocked to find that the standard room here has a full bathub (욕조)! It’s quite rare for this grade. The 욕실 (yok-sil – bathroom) and 화장실 (hwa-jang-sil – toilet) are separated, which is a big plus for convenience.

[Local’s Pro Tip] If having a bathtub is a “must-have” for you after a long day of walking, Hotel Gracery Seoul is one of the few places where you might get one even in a standard room without upgrading!

3. A Smart (But Slightly Inconvenient) Vanity / 똑똑하지만 (조금 불편한) 세면대

The vanity/sink area is sleek and very clean. However, the design choice for storage was a bit inconvenient for me. The amenities, towels, and hairdryer are all stored in drawers directly underneath the counter.

I am quite tall, so I found myself constantly bending down to retrieve items from the drawers.. It’s not a deal-breaker, but it’s something to consider if you have back issues or are taller than average.

4. Twin Rooms and the Simple Buffet / 트윈 룸과 소박한 뷔페

I stayed in what I believe was a Standard Twin Room. The size of the room is perfectly 깔꼼하게 (perfectly sized) for two guests. The twin beds themselves are single-sized, suitable for one person each. If you’re looking for a massive room, this might feel a bit tight, but for a short trip, it’s just right.

Before checking out, I grabbed lunch. The 뷔페 (bwi-pe – buffet) is very 소박한 (so-bak-han – simple/modest). Don’t expect a grand feast. It’s a basic, functional meal option if you’re in a hurry to leave, but there are plenty of other incredible food options around Namdaemun and City Hall!

Final Thought from K-locallog: My Honest Opinion / 솔직한 나의 의견

Overall, the Hotel Gracery Seoul is a decent, modern, and clean choice. The location is wonderful for sightseeing, and having a bathtub in a standard room is a rare find. However, the noise from the protests near City Hall really impacted my stay. If you are a light sleeper, you absolutely need earplugs!

Would I stay again? Maybe, if I knew it would be a quiet weekend!

Another huge plus of Hotel Gracery Seoul is its proximity to Myeong-dong, the heart of Seoul’s street food and shopping scene! It’s just a short walk or one subway stop away.
